The 15th-generation heir of the Takatori family kiln, Shunkei Takatori creates ceramic vessels whose surfaces are marked by the rich textures of wood-fired kilns, then “reborn” through the integration of urushi lacquer and metal. From the early 1600s, the Takatori kiln developed under the guidance of Grand Tea Master Kobori Enshu, embodying his kirei-sabi aesthetic in tea culture. This project explores new possibilities in which inherited Takatori tradition and contemporary sensibilities resonate, revealing fresh expressions of beauty for our time.
